Why do we tolerate racist statements from Barak Obama instead of condemning it?

Barak Obama makes a number of incredibly racist remarks in his book, and he spent 20 years following an incredibly racist pseudo-christian minister. Could you imagine Hillary Clinton or John Kerry being a member of a church, citing the minister as an inspiration and close advisor for the last 20 years, and it comes out that the minister has been part of the Klu Klux Klan? Do think we'd let them off the hook like we have Barak Obama?
