Why American Ignore the TRUE Root Causes of Terrorism and Keep Pointing to Islam?

The vast majority of Muslims identify US military presence in the Middle East and support for Israel as the root cause of terrorism. Terrorists are motivated by hatred and revenge, not religion. Religious IDENTITY, not religion per se, plays a part only when the terrorists realize that the US policies are hurting their fellow Muslims. BUT American very cleverly (or should I say shrewdly) ignore these causes and keep pointing to religious extremism, as if that is the ONLY motivating factor. Is that a trick?
